“So often people spend so much of their time and effort on perceived weaknesses and short comings that they never fully develop, utilize and enjoy their many strengths.”
People are most successful
when they’re properly matched with activities they love to do. Study after study reaffirms that intelligence does not guarantee high accomplishment. Hard work, effort and enthusiasm in the field of choice are the leading indicator of sustained success.
We are so much better served by focusing on our strength, what we do well and what inspires us. Instead of spending time trying to correct weaknesses, focus on developing your talents.
Here’s how:
PICK ONE STRENGTH TO PURSUE
Excellence is the result of working hard at what you enjoy and what you are inspired by. Set your action-oriented goals to target your strengths.
IGNORE WEAKNESSES THAT WON’T HOLD YOU BACK
If you have weaknesses that are not hindering your success they’re not worth your time. Your time is much better spent doing things that will allow you to excel even more at your strengths. If a weakness lessens your productivity it deserves your attention, if it doesn’t, let your strengths overpower your weaknesses.
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by it’s ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”
~Albert Einstein
RECOGNIZE YOUR IMPORTANCE
Your strengths are best on display when you are self-assured about them. If you don’t see your skills as important, if you deem yourself as unworthy of respect, so will everyone else. Self-esteem always comes before peer esteem. When you embrace the belief that your strengths benefit everyone, you will be empowered and encouraged like never before.
BE A RESOURCE
Be willing to help others in your area of expertise. When co-workers feel like they can come to you, bounce ideas off you and get helpful insight you will be on your way to being the trusted leader in those areas.
